24 July 08 - 13:52Ironic Juxtaposition
Two articles within a day of each other on InternetNews.com ... Open Source Users Unhappy with Paid Support and Sun Takes a Shine to Linux in New Web Stack tickled the Symas fancy.. The title of the first is a bit hyperbolic as the article body doesn't actually say they are unhappy with paying for support ... some are unhappy with the support they're getting from the folks they are paying which is something of a different message. And Sun's program is as much about support of Apache, MySQL, and PhP on Solaris as it is on Linux but I guess the Linux part is news to someone ... of course MySQL is Sun, isn't it?

30 May 08 - 00:23Open Source a Threat to Microsoft?
By way of ZDNet coverage of a Ray Ozzie speech. Ray is reported as saying Open Source is a bigger threat to Microsoft than Google. We at Symas are shocked and suitably contrite. We don't mean to threaten anyone

15 April 08 - 03:33Jonathan's on MySQL Conference Day
We at Symas read this blog entry by Jonathan Schwartz (CEO of Sun) with some pleasure. We can't really talk about why, but it's reassuring that Jonathan gets this open source collaboration thing so clearly.

21 December 07 - 00:13"Commercial Open Source"?
Jeff Gould of Interop News asks the question, "Is commercial open source really open?". His answer is, roughly, probably not. Not that he thinks you shouldn't use it if it works for you. He's just saying you should look for the really good software at the right price with terms you can live with. A message we at Symas Corporation agree with.

06 December 07 - 11:12A view on the recent Sun Open Source "moves"
I guess we can derive from recent behavior that Sun goes Open Source to get inexpensive programmers for their products. The source is open but the projects are governed (controlled) by Sun ... or else.

28 November 07 - 01:58OpenDS into the center of the Sun?
Neil Wilson, until recently of Sun's Directory Team, has resigned from the OpenDS team. His open letter to the project and to Sun itself is on his new blog. Symas will be sad to see him go ... especially if he exits the directory space.
