This blog entry is a quite well documented and thought out challenge. No, I'm not going to call him a moron. (more)

20 August 07 - 10:27Enterprise Support for OpenLDAP

We here at Symas were pleased to receive a support request for OpenLDAP from an administrator at a high school in Cedar Rapids, IA. It seems the school year was about to start and LDAP-authenticated logins from workstations had suddenly stopped working. The OpenLDAP build was part of Red Hat's Fedora Core 7, not one of our CDS builds, but we take calls for any build of OpenLDAP, even home-rolled ones. Anyway, not being an LDAP expert and in need of immediate help, the administrator wisely decided to call us. The story has a happy ending for him, but the experience made me think about recent developments in the OpenLDAP support arena for me and Marty prompted me to share my thoughts with you.

12 August 07 - 02:14Oracle tiptoes into Linux Directory Space

At LinuxWorld last week the Symas team was too wrapped up in OpenLDAP, book, and HP activities to spend a lot of time in other peoples' booths. So we missed Oracle's release of Centralized Security and User Authentication Services for Linux described in this blog entry. Welcome one and all but this explanation left us giggling.

For the record, OpenLDAP with its Samba schema and Symas's Unified User Management (pam_ldap and nss_ldap) have been in production in customer installations for some time now. Symas looks for OpenLDAP and Samba to get closer together as Samba 4 rolls out. Oracle? Who? (more)

09 August 07 - 06:37Symas at LinuxWorld

HP was a good host again at LinuxWorld Expo in San Francisco. Symas™ and OpenLDAP were featured in an HP VIP-Day session and we got the Symas sign onto the floor in the HP booth for an hour or so. (more)

08 August 07 - 13:20Per Incident Support for OpenLDAP

Covalent, the company offering commercial support for Apache Web Server and other open source software announced that they are offering per-incident support for OpenLDAP. Symas has offered per-incident support for OpenLDAP for several years. We welcome additional support providers and appreciate the validation of the potential value of support like ours to the end user community. (more)
